Biking Brings Out the Best in People
I bought a bike today as a gift from a guy off Craiglist, and unwisely went to meet him on my own bike. I figured I’d just grab the new bike, and ride em both home. It would be fun! This proved much harder thatn I assumed. All manner of cyclists in Prospect Park stopped and offered their help, but I demured. Finally, after dropping the recently purchsed bike for the 8th time, a cyclist pulled over. He asked where I was going, and insisted on helping me get my bike home. He had no trouble at all trailing it along. Maybe it was the spandex? He said he was on his way to Central Park to get in some more practice and didn’t mind going out of his way a bit to help.
So glad he came! Forget the fact it would have taken me ages to get home, apparently some of the spots we went through are a bit rough at night. East side of Prospect Park after dark? Apparently baaaad.
His reward? A most delicious taco. My reward? A warm and fuzzy on how awesome New Yorkers can be. Well, this person was a Denver transplant, but still. Thanks Neil!
